UMFT Streaming & Content Standards

The editorial principles that guide what we publish: original stories, respected rights, honest AI use, and human review of every film.

Draft — Pending Legal Review

1. Independent Filmmaking & AI-Assisted Productions

UMFT exists to champion independent voices. Fully independent productions and productions made with AI-assisted tools are both welcome, provided the work is original and the rights below are respected. How a film was made matters less than what it says and how honestly it was made.

2. Originality & Storytelling Quality

Every work is judged on its own merits: an original point of view, coherent storytelling, and craft that respects the audience's time. We look for stories that could only have been told by this filmmaker, not imitations of existing hits.

3. Rights Ownership & Licensing

Filmmakers must own or control all rights needed for the submitted work, including footage, music, scripts, and any third-party material. By publishing on UMFT, the filmmaker grants the platform a limited, non-exclusive license to present the work while it is published here. Filmmakers keep their rights.

4. AI Likeness, Voice & Music Permissions

Works that include AI-generated likenesses, voices, or music must include proof of permission where the underlying person or material is identifiable, and must not impersonate real people without consent. Synthesized performances must be disclosed at submission. Deepfakes of real individuals without their consent are not accepted.

5. Difficult Themes & Responsible Storytelling

Cinema has always confronted violence, injustice, and hardship — UMFT does not impose a blanket ban on difficult themes. Each work receives context-sensitive review: we ask whether the material serves the story, whether it is exploitative, and whether it risks real-world harm. Content that glorifies cruelty, sexual exploitation of minors, terrorism promotion, or presents real victims as entertainment is not accepted.

6. Age Classification & Content Descriptors

Works are reviewed for age suitability and given classification and content descriptors (such as language, violence, or mature themes) so viewers can make informed choices. Classification is applied per work, at the film level, not per filmmaker.

7. Cultural Diversity & Respectful Representation

UMFT deliberately seeks stories from every region and community. Works are reviewed for whether people and cultures are portrayed with dignity and care. We do not require any single perspective or aesthetic; we do reject works whose primary purpose is demeaning a people, community, or group.

8. Human Editorial Approval

No work is published automatically. Every submission is reviewed and approved by UMFT's human editorial team before it becomes available to viewers. This applies to every phase of the platform, including any AI-assisted discovery features in the future.

9. Regional Rights & Availability

Filmmakers declare the territories where their work may be shown. A work may be available in some regions and unavailable in others, according to those declarations and any rights windows. Availability may change over time as rights expire or renew.

10. Film-Level Approval, Separate From Filmmaker Approval

Approval is given per work, not per person. A filmmaker whose work was published before has no guarantee that their next work will be published, and a rejected submission does not prevent that filmmaker from submitting a different work. Each film stands on its own.
